QQA Announces Susan Probasco as new Membership & Activities Coordinator

QQA hires new Membership & Activities Coordinator

Join us in welcoming Susan Probasco as QQA’s new Membership & Activities Coordinator!

A native Arkansan, Susan graduated magna cum laude from Clemson University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Anthropology, followed by a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology from Louisiana State University. Susan’s main field of interest has been southern culture, particularly that of the Arkansas Delta. Susan’s mother’s family is from the Delta and growing up she would spend her summers in Eudora where her grandparents owned a concrete company. Susan conducted fieldwork in the Delta over the course of 12 years, in both Chicot and Clay counties, mostly working with elderly ladies, many of whom owned their own businesses. Themes common in Susan’s academic research are community attachment, memory, storytelling, and oral history.

Susan has worked as an instructor of Anthropology at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and at Clemson University. A frequent presenter at Arkansas State University’s yearly Delta Symposium, Susan has recently had a chapter accepted for publication in Delta Symposium: Reflections on the Region’s History, Literature, and Arts. Susan and her family moved to the Governor’s Mansion Historic District in 2021, and having served as a volunteer with the QQA, she is excited to turn her experience in research, community studies, and oral history toward historic preservation and advocacy.

The Quapaw Quarter Association is delighted to welcome Susan to the team!
