Terry Mansion Intervening

The Quapaw Quarter Association has filed a motion in Pulaski County Circuit Court, 12th Division, to intervene in the ongoing Terry Mansion litigation. The plaintiffs are heirs of the Terry family, which deeded the Terry Mansion to the City of Little Rock in 1964, for various specified uses. The City of Little Rock and the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts are defendants. During the city’s ownership the Museum leased and/or used the building for its purposes.

The QQA contends that the property has fallen into a state of severe neglect and disrepair during the City’s ownership and the QQA seeks to intervene on behalf of the property itself to compel the defendants to remedy the current condition. The QQA is asking the court to rule on its motion to intervene so that as an intervenor the QQA can seek to protect the interest of the property by whatever means are found to be appropriate.

The QQA has no monetary or personal interest but is seeking to protect the property consistent with its mission, preservation of greater Little Rock’s historic places.

The QQA is represented by Harrison Kemp of Mann & Kemp, PLLC.

Volunteer Spotlight

Hunter Windle, 58th Tour of Homes Chair

Hunter Windle was the chair for the 58th Tour of Homes in 2023, but before that was an active volunteer and member with the QQA for the past 6 years. Hunter actually got his start working with this organization by volunteering for a previous Tour of Homes. His love of architecture and old buildings first led Hunter to seek involvement with the QQA and he has come to be such a supporting volunteer for the cause of preservation in greater Little Rock. Hunter’s favorite moment volunteering with the QQA was the Central High Tour of Homes. He admitted that while it was “hot and hectic,” it was “a really fun tour.”

While Hunter’s day job is being a lawyer in the city of Little Rock, he fills his spare time with a great many more things. Not only does he volunteer with the QQA and served as the 58th Tour of Homes Chair, Hunter was the previous President of the Capitol View/Stifft's Station Neighborhood association as well as a board member at Preserve Arkansas.

While not a Little Rock native, Hunter was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and arrived in Arkansas in his teens. Hunter’s move to Little Rock happened after his first year of law school. He now lives in a 1905 workers’ cottage in the Capitol View/Stifft’s Station neighborhood and will be the biggest advocate of his neighborhood if you get him talking. Hunter boasts of the “historic and humble character” of the neighborhood that is often overlooked by those outside of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is “home to boisterous cultural institutions like White Water Tavern and Pizza D’Action” which are both incredibly popular hangout spots for those across all of greater Little Rock. The recent addition of the 7th Street mural further supports the community efforts to boost the neighborhood and create an inviting atmosphere for artists and creatives.
