61st Tour of Homes

QQA's 61st Tour of Homes: Argenta Historic District

May 9-10, 2026

For more than 60 years, the Quapaw Quarter Association (QQA) has championed the preservation and celebration of Greater Little Rock’s historic places by connecting the past and present through advocacy, education, and unforgettable experiences. Among its most beloved traditions is the annual Spring Tour of Homes, and we are delighted to invite you to the 61st Tour of Homes, taking place Mother’s Day weekend, May 9–10, 2026, in the Argenta Historic District.

This year’s tour shines a spotlight on Argenta, a neighborhood rich in character, resilience, and architectural charm. Rooted in its working-class beginnings as a hub of railroad yards, cotton oil mills, factories, and cattle pens, Argenta tells a uniquely American story through its built environment. Here, you’ll find an engaging mix of vernacular interpretations of popular architectural styles of the early 20th century, brought to life by notable designers such as Charles L. Thompson, H. Ray Burks, Guy Swaim, and John Parks Almand.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, the Argenta Historic District has played a central role in the revival of downtown North Little Rock. What was once a collection of scattered historic properties has evolved into a cohesive and thriving district that honors its heritage while embracing new life. Today, the district encompasses the heart of the city’s early residential and commercial development, with boundaries stretching from Melrose Circle and 9th Street to the north, N. Broadway to the west, W. 4th Street to the south, and the railroad tracks along Main Street to the east.

The transformation of Argenta over the past few decades is nothing short of inspiring. From just over half of its 172 properties meeting National Register standards in 1993, the district has grown—through dedicated preservation efforts and community investment—to include 258 properties, with more than 80 percent now contributing to its historic integrity. As noted by late preservationist and author of the original Historic District nomination, Sandra Taylor Smith, Argenta’s buildings “strongly retain their integrity of location, design, workmanship and materials,” creating an authentic sense of time and place. Tree-lined residential streets blend seamlessly with the energy of Main Street’s commercial corridor, offering visitors a rich and immersive experience.

Join us this Mother’s Day weekend for a celebration of history, architecture, and community. The 61st Tour of Homes promises not only a glimpse inside some of Argenta’s most captivating spaces, but also an opportunity to experience the stories, craftsmanship, and spirit that continue to shape this remarkable neighborhood.

Tour Volunteers

Historic preservation is more than saving buildings — it’s about revitalizing neighborhoods, curbing urban sprawl, and building vibrant communities. Through advocacy, education, and community events, the QQA brings new life to the places that tell our shared story.

Our biggest volunteer need is for the Spring Tour of Homes, which brings together more than 200 volunteers each year.
